Display is a fundamental aspect of exhibitions. The manner in which works are presented not only influences how audiences engage with them but also plays a crucial role in defining the relationship between the artwork and its situated environment.

For artists who primarily work with sculpture, the presence of pedestals and walls is inherently dialectical. These elements serve both as tools for display and as integral components or extensions of the work. They facilitate the interaction between the work and the exhibition space, while simultaneously reinforcing the sculpture’s autonomy. Furthermore, the presence of pedestals and walls alongside the work signifies the transition of the piece from a private setting to a public exhibition space.

This exhibition, proposed by 'Seepage Edition,' a creative collective dedicated to exploring unconventional relationships in everyday life, features three artists specialising in installations. The project examines methods of exhibition, display tools, and the function of sculpture. By referencing functional furniture such as chairs, cabinets, tabletops, and screens, the exhibition explores display objects—pedestals and walls—seeking to identify intersections between everyday life and the historical discourse of sculpture.

In the exhibition, visitors will observe how the artists use pedestals and walls as a foundation to create various sculptures with similar forms or materials. These works are designed to evoke different contexts, atmospheres, functions, and experiences. As suggested by the exhibition’s title, ‘Display Rehearsal,’ the exhibition reflects the artists' intention to present the practice of display through the repetitive transformation of forms. This approach offers multiple perspectives on sculpture, blurring the distinctions between sculpture and tool, and between display and functionality.

In addition, the installations in the exhibition seek to transcend the boundaries between public and private spaces, extending beyond both physical and psychological dimensions. The works can be viewed as domestic furniture transformed through exhibition, entering the public domain, while also reflecting public display pieces that re-enter private and everyday experiences, creating a dynamic process.

In this context, Seepage Edition regards the process of viewing and interacting with the work as a form of ‘seepage.’ This term signifies the dissolution of clear boundaries between sculpture, furniture, and public and private spaces, which merge and permeate through gradual and subtle interactions. This process extends into daily life, offering new experiences of space, objects, and installations, and inviting multifaceted hybrid forms of existence.

Seepage Edition

Seepage Edition is a creative collective dedicated to exploring unconventional relationships in everyday life. Through experimental events, contextual experiences, spatial installations, and sculptural furniture, they consistently challenge established definitions and boundaries.

Seepage Edition is adept at discovering new ways of understanding through creative practice, actively seeking methods of intervention. Their practices, seen as a form of ‘seepage,’ aims to transcend the boundaries between art and living spaces in a gradual yet meaningful way. Through this dynamic interplay of infiltration, they bring forth new hybrid forms of existence.

Seepage Edition is composed of three artists specialising in installation, sculpture, and photography: Jacky Jaan-Yuan Kuo, Sara Wu, and Sean Tseng. They are currently based in Norway and Taiwan.

Seepage Edition
